Allyship Resources

Why Allyship?

Being an ally for any underserved and/or targeted group is more important than you might realize. It was way more important than I realized until I learned more and became more aware of the privilege I experience every day. Many of the resources listed below are focused on the lgbtq+ community. However, the bottom line boils down to human rights... for everyone. Many of the links and principles I'll be sharing can apply to any group you want to be a better ally for.

For me... being the best ally I can for the lgbtq+ community in general and the transgender community specifically has become increasingly important to me.

Why?

Because, I have a very personal connection with this community. That is usually where awareness begins.

I have always had friends, customers, colleagues whom I knew were part of the community, and for years, I thought that being a "friend" was all I could do, or needed to do. Honestly, I feel embarrassed about that now. However, I realize "you don't know what you don't know". Most of the time, it takes a personal experience or connection to shift awareness and to begin to understand things from a deeper level. For me, that shift and desire to understand, runs very deep and has become a non-negotiable part of my life.

Yet, awareness and understanding don't help much without backing it up with actions. So, my desire with this page is provide information and resources for anyone willing to grow as an Ally through baby steps or bold actions.

November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance.
